The new show “Passagers” by the circus collective founded in Canada by former Cirque du Soleil artists, Les 7 Doigts, premieres in Portugal on February 11 at Coliseu do Porto.
“Passagers” is a contemporary circus that presents a story about a train journey, in which strangers meet. Inspired by the movement and transition on the course, they tell their stories made up of escapes and encounters. As the cadence of the journey breathes its rhythm into the soundscape, revealing the contents of their luggage, they reveal themselves to the public. Directed with fascinating mastery by Shana Carroll, the show unfolds in a series of scenes, like a train at high speed.
Like Les 7 Doigts' previous creations, Passagers is a celebration of the Human and a reflection on the importance and beauty of interpersonal relationships. Expanding the boundaries of the stage experience by combining dance, physical expression, acrobatics and projection, Les 7 Doigts invites audiences to meet characters who look like them. Once again this creation is supported by original musical compositions and an international cast selected for their creative, multidisciplinary and collaborative spirit.
Les 7 doigts de la main (The 7 fingers) appears in 2002 in Montreal, Canada, created by seven artists who were part of Cirque du Soleil: Shana Carroll, Isabelle Chassé, Patrick Léonard, Faon Shane, Gypsy Snider, Sébastien Soldevila and Samuel Tetreault.
Its 7 founders committed themselves to redefining contemporary circus from its essence and exploring the infinite possibilities offered by the mixture of artistic disciplines. Each of his creations is therefore a new epic, a subtle blend of acrobatics and theatricality.
With more than a decade of existence, the collective has already created choreography, acrobatics, juggling and visual effects for events of various sizes, such as the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Turin and Vancouver, the creation and exhibition of its own shows such as Intersection (2014 ), Psy (2009) and Sequence 8 (2012). The collective has won several awards: with Traces, it was listed as one of the ten best shows of 2011 in New York by TIME magazine. In 2009 and 2012 the company won the gold medal at the Festival Mundial do Circo do Amanhã, held in Paris, France. In 2013 they won 4 Tony Awards with the musical Pippin.
“Passagers” is a unique opportunity to see one of the best contemporary circus collectives in action.
